A correction.
In my previous post, I said:

Was it all some angsty teenage emo-fest hoax? Signs indicate that, but we shall see.

It was wrong of me to say that. I don't know anything about Zeni. If she did indeed run away and fake her own kidnapping, it is not difficult to imagine that it might be motivated by a very real need for help, or to be heard. It was wrong of me to treat this so dismissively, and I apologize.

I am omitting most details as there will be a trial and I don't want to mess anything up. Please don't ask questions. I will fill people in as I am able.
Zeni was abducted by what appears to be strangers, from her father's yard. Her cell phone was found by her Dad, still on. Her father called the police, but there are time limitations and other things that keep them from investigating immediately. Plus, APD dragged it's feet because they were fairly sure she was a runaway. She and her father fight a lot, but she has never attempted to run away. However, when certain evidence came to light, they decided that she was indeed the victim of a kidnapping and in imminent danger. They posted it on the police blotter last night around 7:20. Bob and I did an interview with Fox 7 that aired at 9 last night. Apparently the men (and there may have been five of them) saw the report and got scared. They took Zeni to a restaurant and dropped her off saying that they would be back and if she talked to any one they would punish her. Someone in the restaurant recognized her from the publicity and called the cops. When the officer (who I have yet to meet, and I want to hug him so much!!!) arrived, the restaurant was closed, but the employees pointed her out in front of the store. She was completely terrified, but he talked her into getting into the cruiser. Once he had her, it was all over. She was taken to the hospital. I don't have to say any more than that they gave her the anti-AIDS coctail and the anti-pregnancy pills, and some tranquilizers.
Before this happened, she was all attitude as a 14 year old girl should be. She looks like a scared little girl now. My heart is broken for her. I am just so glad that those assholes didn't panic and kill her. I was afraid I would never see her again. She is happily playing "We Love Katamari" with her sister right now, and she is calm. Every now and then she will offer a piece of information and it is all I can do to keep from losing it in front of her. But if she can be this strong, I have to be stronger, you know?
She will be getting counseling and probably more love than a 14 year old cares to receive.
Now the long and frustrating part begins. There are men out there that need to be caught. She has not described them to me, but I am sure APD will release information as they feel it is prudent. Those guys are going to fucking pay for what they did to Zenobia, and I will be at every minute of their trial.
Thank you all for your love and support. We got her back. Out of all the possible outcomes, we were blessed with the best one.
peace
Phyllis

I honestly don't see much which needs apology. If this was a runaway situation, the existence of valid motivation wouldn't keep this from being angsty teenage emo-fest.

In my less cynical youth, I would have probably helped shelter someone in a runaway situation, and thus exposed myself to kidnapping (or worse) charges. If this is a hoax, I have trouble with the idea that the perpetrator must be treated with kid gloves; it would teach entirely the wrong lesson, to someone who willfully endangered protectors to save her hide a tanning.

How did she send Myspace messages? Were they really dumb enough to leave her in a room with internet access? And with internet access, she chose myspace versus regular email?

Please note the "ifs"; they are intended as conditionals, not implication. If their inverse is true, then I'm talking about the opposite side of the problem, which lead to police ignoring the initial reports. Its a problem no matter where Zen's case falls.

When [info]nationelectric feels need to apologize for his speech in defense of the quick spread of the "missing" report, something is wrong. It's a horrid situation, to be sure: all the more reason to step back, and look at the whole objectively.

It's a horrid situation, to be sure: all the more reason to step back, and look at the whole objectively.

And that's exactly why I apologized. I didn't know crap about Zeni or about what happened. I still don't. Neither do you, nor does interactiveleaf. There is virtually nothing objective that we can say about this that is of any use to anyone. Anything we say is a bunch of armchair speculation at the expense of people who are in the middle of a very raw situation and who are going through a very trying ordeal. They didn't ask to become public spectacles for a bunch of online posturing about free speech, or our national discourse, or any of that crap, they asked for help in getting Zeni back.

It is impossible here to speculate about these kinds of what-ifs without casting aspersions on people's character, or diminishing what is potentially very real suffering, and this is an exceedingly poor time to do so.

Aspersions weren't intended: I'll leave off.
